Pain Reprocessing Therapy Pracitioner

PhD, BScPT

Hello there, I'm Scotty Butcher, and my journey through physiotherapy has been a bit unconventional, but it's given me a unique lens through which to help you.

With a PhD in Physiology and as a licensed Physiotherapist, I've spent years immersed in the science of the body. But my real passion ignited when I started exploring the profound connection between our physical being and our inner emotional world.

I've learned that chronic pain, stress, anxiety, fear, and trauma isn't just "in your head" or "all in your body"—it's a complex interplay. That's why I've dedicated myself to advanced training in the mind-body connection. What does this mean for you? It means I'm equipped to offer a truly integrated, evidence-based approach that speaks to your whole self. My goal isn't just to alleviate symptoms, but to empower you with the knowledge and tools to take control of your health, build lasting resilience, and live a life unburdened by pain and fear.

FAQ's

What inspired you to blend physiotherapy with mind-body practices like mindfulness, coaching, and biofeedback?

I started out in traditional physiotherapy and science, but I kept seeing people who were still in pain even after trying everything. That made me realize healing isn’t just about muscles and bones—it’s also about how your brain and body work together. I wanted to help people feel truly heard and understood, so I added tools like mindfulness, coaching, and biofeedback. These are backed by science and help people take control of their healing in a way that feels real and lasting.

How do you support clients dealing with chronic pain, stress, or anxiety in your practice?

In my office at Anderson Dupuis Wellness, I create a calm and welcoming space where people feel safe. I start by listening to their story—what they’ve been through and what they want to get back to. I use a mix of physical assessments and tools that measure how their nervous system is working, like heart rate and breathing. I teach them how pain works in the brain and help them learn ways to calm their body and mind. Every session is built around what they need most, and they always leave with something helpful to work on.

What is Pain Reprocessing Therapy, and how can it help someone with persistent pain?

Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) helps people understand that chronic pain isn’t always about injury—it’s often about how the brain is reacting. Sometimes the brain gets stuck in a loop, sending pain signals even when the body is safe. PRT teaches the brain to stop seeing normal sensations as dangerous. We do this through education, movement, and learning to notice pain without fear. It helps people feel safer in their bodies and reduces pain over time.

Can you explain how nervous system regulation and biofeedback fit into your work?

Many people I work with are stuck in “fight, flight, or freeze” mode, which makes pain and stress worse. Biofeedback tools help us see how their nervous system is working—things like heart rate, breathing, and skin temperature. Then we use those tools to teach the body how to calm down. It’s like giving people a window into their own system and showing them how to change it. It’s powerful because they can see the results and feel more in control.

What can someone expect from working with you, whether online or in person?

Whether you come to my office or meet with me online, you’ll get a safe space to talk and learn. I’ll listen closely, help you understand your symptoms, and give you tools to feel better. You’ll learn how your nervous system works and how to calm it. You’ll get exercises, breathing practices, and new ways to think about your pain. Every session is built around your goals, and you’ll always leave with something useful.

You’ve worked as a professor, clinician, and coach—how does your diverse background shape the care you provide?

My background helps me bring together science and real-life care. As a professor, I know the research and what works. As a clinician, I’ve helped people for years and understand what they go through. As a coach, I know how to guide and support people in a way that feels personal. I don’t just treat symptoms—I help people understand their bodies and minds so they can heal and grow. It’s about using everything I’ve learned to help people feel strong and capable again.
